What's going on? What's going on?

Well, hello, pleoworld!

It has been a few months since I was last on pleonast, and a great many things have happened. January came and went, along with my decision to go back to school and most of my prep work. My GRE scores were just what I needed to get in at the school I will be attending, which is amazing!

February was an absolutely horrible month. Towards the beginning of the month, my g'momma fell ill. If you will remember, she fell and broke her hip just after thanksgiving, after she insisted on moving back out of our home. She had only lived there for a week just before thanksgiving, but could she stand to be away from her old house? No. So she moved back. After breaking her hip, she spent the month of December and January in and out of the hospital, nursing homes, and rehab center. In february, she fell ill again, after complaining to a visitor that she wasn't feeling well, the nurses at the nursing home sent her to the hospital, where it was discovered she had an infection, along with pneumonia. The doctor's put her on a respirator/breathing machine, but unfortunately, the breathing machine started doing the majority of her breathing for her. When they finally took her off, she continued breathing on her own, but never woke up. She passed in mid-February.

We all drove down to Memphis a day or two later and helped mom deal with funeral things, along with the beginning stages of closing down her house and getting rid of things. I stayed and helped for about a week, then mom and I drove back on a tuesday.

But the crappiness of the month continued when I walked in to work the next day, on Wednesday, February 16th. I was called and asked if I could come in and cover another coworker's shift. When I walked in, these were the words that greeting me: "Hey Rebecca, our store's closing!" Borders announced on that very day that they had filed for bankruptcy, and that over 200 stores would be closing across the US. Our store just happened to be one of them. Our store wasn't even the poor performing store in the area, yet they chose us. What is more is that we were then told there would be no transfers and there was a hiring freeze within the company.

Now, since I had already made plans to go back to school and will, in all likelihood, receive financial aid, I was still shell-shocked. How could our store be closing?! It just didn't seem possible.

So we started our closing sale that weekend, and we are now in our sixth week of the closing sale. It's really depressing seeing the state of our store at the moment. Less than half of our stock is left, and it has all moved into the center and front portions of the store. We have schedules set up til the end of next week, but we could have a few more after that. And Border's corporate is still making crappy business decisions, but there are too many to think about and not enough space here. Needless to say, everyone who works at a Border's store absolutely hates Border's at the moment, and will probably hate them until they close all the stores entirely, which is inevitable.

March hasn't been that great either, but it's been better than February. Just incredibly rainy and I haven't had time to rest cuz I've been working at the store non-stop.

But April is almost here, and after the first Friday (which is always an unlucky day for me, and just happens to be April Fool's day) I'm hoping things will start looking up. I'll soon be done at Borders and have some time to relax. Mom and I will be making a run to find an apartment (my first ever!!!). And we are currently fostering super cute puppies!

I can't help but think that things are looking up, even if things are incredibly not-good right now.
