Alright folks, it's been a super-long time since I have visited the Pleo Universe, but I'm back to briefly update on my life. I did finally finish the first draft of my book, but finishing the fixes was put on hold with the arrival of the holiday season. Christmas was littered with time with family, bible class teaching at church, almost non-stop work at Borders, and drama with the Gmomma. The actual celebration of the holiday was one of the best I've had in years. We weren't cooped up in a hotel room for days on end, or stuck in a car for hours, which was really nice.
The few negative things were my grandmother fell and broke her hip. We've been dealing with rehab, hospitals, nursing homes and other things related to this for over a month. It's really been wearing on my mom, who has always had a rocky relationship with her mother. Things are starting to finally look better, which is a good thing, but they are far from over.
In addition, there was quite a bit of drama at work for me. I got called in to work on a busy, snowy day (when I wasn't originally supposed to) and got a mystery shop. Needless to say, the fates worked against me that day and a coworker and myself ended up getting incredibly bad scores on this mystery shop. As a result, our ever mature supervisor decided the best way to deal with this situation was to completely stop talking to the both of us and not explain what was going on at all! It made the weeks working at the bookstore during christmas really unbearable and led to an extremely important decision: I am going back to school.
Yes, I did type that right. I am going back to school. I refuse to spend another christmas in the horrible retail world, but every time I apply for a job, they either want a masters' or 5 years of experience. W/o that experience I can't get hired for any job, but I can get the masters' degree. After careful consideration, I have decided to go back to school to become a librarian. I want to go to Alabama, but I have to finish the application process, get accepted, then get financial aid. Whew, it's a lot of work. But I'm very close to getting the application done.
I truly hope it works out well, mainly because I don't want to go anywhere else. My parents are trying to get used to the idea. Well, parent. My mother completely refuses to acknowledge my desire (I think she's hoping it is just a phase), but my dad did listen to my plans with a very neutral and open mind, which was nice.
I hope that by the next time I have logged on, I will have been admitted and can continue to let the pleo world know of my exploits. Tudaloo for now!
