So i finally have some good news! I have found a job! That's right, you heard me. I have found a job!
I know someone who runs a non-profit, and she had an assistant who broke her elbow. I am covering for her until she gets better, doing event planning and fundraising and helping the director in any way that I can. It's been keeping me really busy and will definitely help me with paying off my student loans. The non-profit provides behavior therapy for kids with autism.
For the longest time, I thought that fundraising is what I wanted to do, so I was really excited about doing that and learning. This organization is only a year old, and a lot of what I'm doing feels wrong. Not morally or anything, it just doesn't feel like I like what I'm doing. I'm going door to door to places in the area, or calling random companies and asking them for money or sponsorship or donations. I'm calling people during the day like a telemarketer or walking to their front doors like a door-to-door salesman. This is not what I thought fundraising would be.
My question is, am I making myself unhappy? I finally have something similar to what I though I wanted, and I suddenly don't think it's right. I had the opportunity to go in today while everyone else was out, and I elected not to go. Course, there were a lot of other factors involved in that decision, but if I'm being honest with myself, I didn't want to be there.
I've been seeing these great kids come into the office to learn, and they are all so sweet. I then see the therapist work with thm one on one, and I get so jealous. I think this is what I might want to do. I want to work with the kids. Now, the thoughts I keep circling around in my mind keep centering on becoming a behavior interventionist. Again, am I just being difficult, or was I wrong?
